Horizontal Directional Drilling

Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) is a highly efficient and trenchless installation method for the underground placement of HDPE ducts and Emtelle’s FibreFlow microduct bundles.

Horizontal Directional Drilling is used where open cut installations are not feasible or the option to open trench is not advisable. It has minimal impact on the surrounding area, suitable for a variety of soil conditions and in general only requires two manholes.

Key Features

  1. 1.

Minimal disruption to road, river or rail traffic and minimal impact on landscapes
  2. 2.

Crossing obstacles such as rivers, highways, railway lines or trees
  3. 3.

Distances up tp 500m possible without the need for intermediate pits

Key Features

  • Installation method for places where open installation is not feasible
  • Microduct bundles can be installed either in straight lines or curves to avoid any obstacles
  • Less damage to surfaces as only entry point and exit point are needed for drilling
  • Low impact on environment – can be used for surfaces that are particularly worthy of protection
  • Quick process and in many cases lower overall costs in comparison to open trench
  • Suitable in different types of soil (up to class 6)
  • Onshore/Offshore connections in coastal areas
