fibreflow brings broadband to remote communities in Sweden
Emtelle helped remote communities in northern Sweden to establish ducted networks for high-speed broadband access. The project received financial support from the Swedish government, and demonstrated the cost-effectiveness of using fibreflow to deploy fibre in isolated areas. The villagers organized themselves to install the network in the ground according to the system supplier’s instructions.
The supplier agreed to instruct the local people how to handle the products – an indication of how user-friendly fibreflow technology is. Direct bury tubes were installed, one tube per house. Under supervision from the distributor, a fully trained contractor carried out the fibre blowing using standard equipment, slightly modified because of the extremely low temperatures and humidity. The compressor and blowing equipment performed excellently, even under these extreme conditions. In light of the project’s success, several other communities in the area have followed suit and are building their own fibreflow networks in cooperation with local network operators.

fibreflow enables Nuenen to become the broadband community of the future
Emtelle helped the town of Nuenen to install a high-speed broadband network serving almost 8,000 people. With a superfast speed of 10 Mb/s (upgradeable to 100 Mb/s), the town’s residents have access to a tremendous range of sophisticated services, as well as the potential for competition-driven enhancements, such as free local phone calls. It also allows people to participate more fully (and enjoy greater security) in their community. A staggering 96% of homes in Nuenen have expressed interest in the service.
This is the first large-scale network that applies 3mm tubes, along with specially developed accessories. The tubing – flexible, compact and reinforced for extra durability – ensures that completing the work network-wide is much easier. And there is more than enough room for expansion.
The fibre is blown through the tubes a distance of around 500 metres, directly from the cabinet to the residence. In addition, Emtelle introduced a new product especially for the Nuenen
project – a tube organizer that allows much more tubing to be brought together and redirected to residences. Thanks to Emtelle and , the project – which typically would have taken years to finish – was completed in just 6 months, and has set the standard for similar projects worldwide.
